Navarathri Day 1 

Navarathri 1st day alangkaaram. Sita Parinayanam ( annalum nokinaal avanum nokinaan). Lord Sri Rama is looking at Sita Devi but she is bit shy looking at Him.

Navarathri Day 2

Navarathri day 2 - Sri Vaikunthanathan thirukolam. Lord Rama sits majestically on Adishesha as Vaikunthanathan bestowing His blessings to devotees.

Navarathri Day 3

Navarathri day 3- Venugopala Thirukolam. Lord Rama dressed as Krsna playing flute attracting jeevathmas with His melodious and enchanting music.

Navarathri Day 4


Purattasi 2nd Saturday- SriSrinivasar in pattabhisheka Ramar Thirukolam. Sita devi is seated on the lap of SriRama while Lakshmana holds umbrella for the divine couple and Hanuman at the feet of rama depicting the coronation ceremony of Sri Rama as the king of Ayodhi.

Navarathri Day 5

Navarathri day 5- Nachiyaar Thirukolam. Lord Rama dressed as Nachiyaar remembering His leela appearing as Mohini to distract asuras from obtaining Amrita. Also to symbolize that Taayar sri Mahalaksmi is within Him.

Navarathri Day 6


Navarathri Day 6 - Lord Rama is dressed as Athi Laksmi thirukolam to symbolise that the supreme Lord bestows one with all opulence, prosperity and aiswarya to all those to surrender unto Him.

Navarathri Day 7


Navarathri day 7 - Kalingga Narthanam. Lord Rama dressed as Krishna dancing on serpent Kaliya taking out all the poison n destroying his ego. May he also remove the poison from our hearts n mind and grant us moksha.

Navarathri Day 8


Navarathri Day 8 - Govardhana Giridaari. Lord Rama dressed as Krishna lifting up Govardhana Hill remembering His pastime to save the people of Vrindhavana from storm and flood created by Indra. May krishna also protect us from storm in ourselves created by our own panchaindra.

Purattasi Month Prayer 2014 @ Sri Ramar Temple, Penang






Tamil month Purattasi begins today.Purattasi Masam, or Puratasi, is the sixth month in a Tamil calendar and is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara (Lord Vishnu). Saturdays in the Purattasi month are dedicated to Lord Shani and special prayers are offered for escaping from the bad effects of Sani in one’s horoscope. In 2014, Puratasi month starts on September 17 and ends on October 17.Legend has it that Lord Venkateswara appeared on earth in Purattasi Masam. Lord Vishnu devotees consider Puratasi as the ideal month for thanking Lord Vishnu for preserving the Universe. Lord Vishnu is believed to do the job of preservation in Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism Special prayers are offered at the Sri Ramar Temple,Penang  in Purattasi Month.Another legend suggests that Lord Saneswara (Shani) loses his powers in Puratasi month and so it is easy to escape his malefic influences. Devotees of Lord Venkateswara take only a meal on Puratasi Saturdays. Some devotees only eat vegetarian food during the month. On Saturdays, Naamum, the two feet symbol of Lord Vishnu’s feet, is drawn on the forehead by males and women opt for a red dot. Hymns dedicated to Lord Vishnu are chanted on Saturdays.Devotees offer Mavilakku to God.
